Peace, Safety and Destruction

Is a nuclear holocaust coming soon?

Though many folks believe that the world is headed for an unprecedented time of peace and tranquility, biblical prophecy reveals that the last days on earth are going to be a time of violence, bloodshed and evil.

Concerning the last days, Jesus Christ warned: "For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now--and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened." (Matthew 24:21-22)

The apostle Paul recorded this end-time prophecy: "While people are saying, 'Peace and safety,' destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape." (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

And the prophet Daniel, who lived about 2,600 years ago, revealed that when the dreaded Antichrist assumes power over a world government, "he will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does." (Daniel 8:24)

That kind of devastation can only come from nuclear weapons. And even though many nations have attempted to curtail and even dispose of their nuclear arsenals, a new arms race is taking place between two rising giants in the world--China and Russia.

For example, under President Vladimir Putin, Russia is committed to spending $700 billion during the current decade to upgrade its military and weapons systems. Some of those upgrades will include new long range, land-based ICBMs that are capable of delivering multiple and potent nuclear warheads.

Other upgrades include the introduction of new nuclear submarines that can travel long distances undetected and launch nuclear missiles capable of striking any destination on earth.

These new Borei class subs are scheduled to replace an aging fleet of Delta III and Typhoon subs, and the new subs are killing machines. The Borei subs carry six torpedo tubes that can carry 16-20 stage-three propellant Bulava ICBM's that have an estimated range of over 9,000 kilometers. (5,600 miles)

How nuclear potent is Russia? The bear currently possesses an estimated 8,420 warheads which is the most of any nation on earth. Next is the United States with about 7,650 warheads. However, President Obama wants to drastically cut America's nuclear arsenal and shrink its military. That could be a recipe for a future disaster.

Not to be outdone by its northern neighbor, China has committed 13.4 trillion yen ($134 billion) just for the current (2014) year to upgrade its military and weapons systems.

Furthermore, China is developing its own nuclear submarines (Type 096) that will carry up to 24 JL-2 missiles. The JL-2 has a range of 14,000 kilometers (8,700 miles) and can carry multiple warheads.

What makes the JL-2 so deadly is its range. And since it can be launched from nuclear submarines, it can strike anywhere on earth. Nuclear subs are far more dangerous than land-based ICBMs because they can be moved around and be nearly impossible to detect until they're launched. And when they're launched, it may be too late to stop them.

Indeed, when the world believes that it has finally achieved peace, then the Antichrist will unleash a nuclear holocaust against those nations that he feels have betrayed him.

Let us pray that we aren't around to witness this devastation. As Christ warned, it will be a time unlike any other period in world history.
