A map of Gog and Magog |
If it seems that Russia has been expressing quite a bit of interest in recent years about expanding its economic, political and military influence throughout Eastern Europe, then that's surely not a coincidence.
In fact, that's prophetic. Nearly 26 centuries ago, the ancient Hebrew prophet Ezekiel revealed that in the end times, a powerful nation located in the eastern world would rise up and form a coalition of nations that would dominate the world. (Ezekiel 38-39)
Ezekiel described this powerful nation as Gog, and its political coalition as Magog. What is the identity of Gog? And what are the identities of the nations that will from its political alliance Magog?
Gog is another name for Rosh which was an ancient Caucasian tribe that many modern Russians are descended from. But what about Magog? Among the nations that will make up this alliance include Austria, Germany, Hungary, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Belarus, and of course the Ukraine.
Remember that this alliance was prophesied by Ezekiel nearly 26 centuries ago. That's why Russia's decision to muscle the region of Crimea away from the Ukraine is a prophetic step towards the eventual fulfillment of Ezekiel's ancient prophecy.
The Ukrainian people thought that they had rid themselves of Russia's influence recently when they rose up and threw out Russia's handpicked puppet president Viktor Yanukovych after several days of bloody and violent demonstrations in the streets.
The Ukrainian people want to belong to the western world under the political and military protection of NATO, the European Union and the United States. They don't want anything to do with Russia.
Unfortunately for the Ukraine and other eastern European nations that don't want political and economic ties with Russia, they're seeking protection from dying entities. NATO is becoming a rusting, irrelevant hulk; the European Union is weak and disorganized and the United States is emasculating its military under the inept Obama Administration.
Furthermore, the United States is increasingly looked upon by a growing number of nations as a has-been that has lost its will to fight wars and defend the world against tyrants and despots. That was never more evident than when President Obama failed to enforce his red-line threat against Syria last year after its President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against his own people.
And while the United States shrinks its military and eliminates its stockpile of nuclear weapons, Russia continues to build up her military and develop new long range ICBMs that can deliver multiple nuclear warheads to practically any destination on earth.
Could one of those destinations be the United States? To use an old cliche; might makes right. If America loses the ability to defend herself and the world because she disarms herself, then a new superpower will emerge that will rule the world with an iron fist. And that superpower could be Russia.
And if the United States follows through on its intention to become a "peaceful" nation with a small military and threadbare nuclear arsenal, there'll be no stopping Russia.
Russia's ascent to a political and military superpower isn't in the cards--it's in the prophecy. As in biblical prophecy.
Insightful, thank you, I've been studying Ezekiel 38 the last few weeks after Russia invaded Crimea.
